Position Overview

The Job Captain at New Generation Design Wave is responsible for preparing design and construction drawings for architectural projects. This role involves creating 3D models, reviewing drawings, providing design solutions, and coordinating with consultants. The Job Captain will lead and mentor junior and intermediate staff throughout all phases of production of architectural drawings for multiple projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Schedule review, implementation, updates, and reporting in Microsoft Project.
  • Conduct surveys and gather data for design development.
  • Research and select materials and processes for projects, focusing on functionality.
  • Develop and manage team production of construction documents.

Drawing Production:

  • Prepare general Revit models, floor plans, slab edge drawings, building sections, wall sections, and details.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes and project design standards.
  • Produce presentation-quality drawings for client approval at various stages of the project.

Coordination and Quality Control:

  • Coordinate with consultants and subcontractors, redline drawings, and lead coordination meetings.
  • Review and mark up staff work, ensuring quality and adherence to project specifications.
  • Conduct quality control checks and provide technical solutions throughout the design and construction document phases.
  • Oversee construction activities, including site visits and review of submittals.
  • Act as a liaison to contractors and consultants during design development and construction phases.
  • Assist in preparing permit applications and responding to authorities.

Team Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Mentor junior and intermediate architectural technologists and designers.
  • Encourage teamwork and positive communication within the project team.
  • Lead project meetings, prepare agendas, and document meeting minutes.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code is considered an asset
  • Licensed Architectural Technologist (OACETT)
  • 8+ years of experience, with at least 5 years in an architectural firm.
  • Significant experience with high and mid-rise residential projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Wrike, Microsoft Project, Photoshop, and Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate architectural 3D models and construction drawings.
  • Member of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) or eligible for membership (preferred).
  • Project Management designation preferred.
